He Came For Mine (The Protectors of Aidensdein #2)
Carolyn Brown

Page Count: 207
Release Date: 27 September 2012

Desperate to save the life of a child he never knew he had, Sebastian returns to Earth to find Jazz in the arms of another man—a man he knows all too well, a man who cannot be trusted. Sebastian worries if Jazz’s feelings for him have fleeted in his absence and vows to win her back.

Jazz struggles to find ground between Sebastian and her new life, unsure of who to trust and still holding resentment for Seb’s abandonment. She seeks solace through someone who was there for her when she needed to pick up the pieces.

After coming to terms with her new life, Jazz is struck down with confusion and longing when Sebastian suddenly returns.

However, a dark battle is forthcoming, one that is bound to bring bloodshed.

“How dare you, Ryan! What game do you think you’re playing?”

“A game I intend to win.” He grinned back at me.

“Where am I?”

“Inside Carrion castle. Fortified with spells the Horde use to protect it from attack and outside these walls, there are over two hundred of the Horde surrounding the perimeter, so I doubt my younger brother will succeed in trying to save you. He may as well not even attempt it.”

“What do you want with me, Ryan?”

“Don’t flatter yourself. You couldn’t give me what I want. No human could and let’s face it, Jazz: you, after all, are just human, with a little vampire blood pumping through your veins. No, we need you for the ritual.”

“What ritual?”

“We need you to bond with your daughter before she totally withers away to nothing.”

“What? Where is she?”

“You will see her soon enough.”

With these words, he left the room and I was left alone in the semi-darkness. Looking around there was a small bed in one corner, a toilet and wash basin and a small table and chair stood in another.

I sat and waited wondering how long I would be held here. I was concerned for Waratah’s health and hoped that whatever plan Seb would put in place to rescue me, would happen soon and that it would happen without too many lives being lost.

Once all members of our party had assembled on the other side of the vortex on Carrion, I ordered for everyone to drink from the supply of blood we had brought with us, ensuring our army was alert and at full strength.

I looked upon the faces surrounding me and saw no fear upon them, only determination. This was a good thing, as the Horde was one of the few races which could inflict fear in any of us.

I gave Julian my command and headed in the direction of the castle with my team of loyal supporters. Xavier, Vern, and Bliss were as usual by my side. This time, Zane had been included as he had sworn allegiance to Jazz; we would value his support.

From the writings of the ancients, I had discovered a pathway into the castle which we hoped would lead us in without being detected, while Julian led the army into battle from outside.

Jazz had told me that in her vision she had seen a crimson, red tree without leaves floating on a mound of green moss, like algae. Even though there were many of these trees on Carrion one such tree marked the entrance to the tunnel, the tree in the fabled tales of never ending life.

This particular tree happens to line up with Aidensdein at midday and midnight as the Carrion castle stands to the left side of it. This is what the writings tell me, so now we need to find it, if it even still exists, and hope the entrance opening is free from debris and is still accessible.

“The time for the alignment will be soon, we must find the tree.” I could hear the urgency in my voice and my three friends looked across at me with concern on their faces.

Then Zane yelled across the plain from about five hundred metres away, “There, is that it?” He was pointing to a massive tree off to our left. The alignment looked like it could be possible. The castle was standing in the distance on the left side of the tree and Aidensdein could be seen rising in the sky between them.
