I struggle with both sensitive skin and mild acne, so I am always very hesitant to try unfamiliar products that are outside of my regular safety zone skincare routine. I was more than eager to try this face wash though, because it, in the vein of neutral cleansers like Cetaphil, was formulated for sensitive skin. It is fragrance and soap-free, so it won't cause irritation like other harsh face cleansers out there can.

Alpha Hydrox Foaming Face Wash is a liquid cleanser from Neoteric Cosmetics, and it is smooth and pearly in texture; it looks and feels exactly like shampoo. It lathers up really nicely and feels very nice and smooth when I rub it onto my face. I have oily skin, and immediately after washing my face, I could feel it felt tighter and almost like it was dried out. Not in a bad way—I just mean to say it absorbed all the oiliness, which I love! However, if you have dry skin, you may want to steer clear from this cleanser; if it dried ME out, it would definitely dry you out.

A major thing I noticed was how soft and smooth my skin felt after using this cleanser. The AHA extracts are acne fighting and have chemically exfoliating properties, which makes skin baby-soft. Unlike physical exfoliants—like most scrubs or roughly textured cleansers you may be accustomed to—chemical exfoliants feel like a regular face wash and just slough off the dead skin with the AHA. That means it isn't too strong on skin and is gentle enough to be used twice a day.

A MAJOR appeal to this Alpha Hydrox cleanser is how affordable it is. It retails for $7.49 directly at Neoteric Cosmetics, but Amazon has it for $7.29 with free shipping! Not only is it competitively priced with drugstore products, but it's very widely available too. You can find it anywhere online (including Amazon and, and at Ulta, as well.

One warning is that AHA is known to make skin very sensitive to the sun, so I would suggest you apply sunscreen liberally after washing your face with this product (although you should be using sunscreen every day anyway!!). Due to the added sensitivity it causes, I will only be using this cleanser at night. Another FYI is that this product contains parabens, which may be a turn-off to some people, but it doesn't affect me. I mean, sure, I would prefer to stay away from them if possible, but almost all chemically manufactured beauty products contain parabens, so they're not something I can avoid rigidly. The nighttime cleanser I was previously using (from Mario Badescu) contains parabens as well, so it really makes no difference to me. What matters is that I love how it makes my face feels; I'm hoping it will help keep any blemishes at bay too. It is definitely my new nighttime cleanser.
