❤author: Gena Showalter Interview and Giveaway!

❤ I'm thrilled to welcome the fabulous Gena Showalter to the blog today. Welcome to ¡Miraculous!, Gena! Will you please tell us about your newest release, Wicked Nights?

Thank you so much for having me!

Wicked Nights is the story of Zacharel, the new leader of the Army of Disgrace—heavenly warriors in danger of falling from grace — and Annabelle, a human who has spent the last four years locked inside an institution for the criminally insane. He doesn’t have time for a distraction, but Annabelle fascinates him in a way nothing else ever has. Zacharel decides he wants her — but so does the demon chasing her.

Ohmigosh...... excuse me while I fangirl for a brief moment, but I'm such a Gena Showalter junkie! This new book's literally got me drooling ♥_♥ How did you first get published? Tell us your call story.

I’d written for a little over two years and had six manuscripts under my belt when I landed an agent (Deidre Knight of the Knight Agency).

We got an offer almost right away — but that fell through. Afterward, we shopped that sixth manuscript everywhere, but no one wanted it. I wrote a seventh, but no one wanted it, either. Two years passed before Harlequin decided to open up a single title line, HQN. They called my agent, hoping one of her other clients could write for them. That client couldn’t, but my agent said, “Have I got the author for you,” and sent them The Stone Prince. A few weeks later, my agent received a fax. The phones were down at Harlequin but executive editor Tracy Farrell had read my book, loved it, and wanted to discuss it when she returned to the office — in a week.

The day before Tracy returned, though, my agent left. Another week passed before the women were able to hook up. I was very hard to live with during that time, I think LOL. Then, the call came in. HQN did indeed want to buy it plus another book (which turned out to be The Pleasure Slave).

❤ How much of your actual life gets written into your fictional stories?

I do use conversations I’ve had with my family or conversations I’ve heard my family members have with each other. In fact, my youngest sister just read an advanced copy of my September 25th release, Alice in Zombieland, and told me, “Now I know where you get some of your material!”

❤ Give aspiring writers a piece of advice you wish you had known before getting published.

Write the story the way it needs to be told, not the way you think others will want you to write it. You can never guess what others will actually like. They’ll always surprise you. So, stay true to yourself and your voice.

❤ What's the most interesting comment you have ever received about your books?

I’m always so wonderfully surprised when someone actually likes one LOL

Wellll it ain't that surprising for me, ma'am! You're brilliant! *grin* Where can you be found on the web?

❤ Thank you so much for being here today, Gena! It was a pleasure getting to know you and congrats on the new wicked release!
